Sample Course Offerings
There are several new classes each year and many teachers rotate the subject annually.
History in the movies
History in the movies is a class in which the student will watch a selected Hollywood feature film each day that tells the story of non-fiction historical events. Prior to viewing each film, students will learn the events involving the plot and historical period of each film. Throughout the week, students will learn some of the techniques involved in film making. We will examine how meaning in film is conditioned by the use of camera, editing, lighting, sound, acting, and technology. We will also evaluate the accuracies, inaccuracies and bias of the film. Films to be considered for viewing include: Glory, Amadeus, Apollo 13, United 93, Hotel Rwanda, and Rudy.

god's wisdom and design: it's his lab
As God’s handiwork, humankind has uncovered and cultivated numerous gifts, abilities, and applications in the science realm. Chemistry, as the study of matter and the physical world of God’s creation, uses this knowledge to produce new materials and integrate products for everyday life. Biology, or the study of life, is also involved with much chemistry. Advances in the life sciences have obvious implications to our overall health and well-being. Through use of discussion, video, guest speakers, industry field trips, research and the laboratory experience, students will explore scientific achievement while at the same time realize its limitations. Comparisons will be made to what has been discovered in God’s physical designs and then applied in some of today’s commodities. The student will also perform several experiments that utilize, study, and observe this process. Safe and accurate lab skills will be further developed.
