The Christian Leadership School
Someone once said that you can love people without leading them, but you cannot lead people without loving them. Leadership guru, John Maxwell, says that “everything rises and falls on leadership.” Jesus Christ said that “I came that they may have life and have it abundantly” (John 10:10). He also challenged “everyone to whom much was given, of him much will be required, and from him to whom they entrusted much, they will demand the more” (Luke 12:48).
At Lutheran High School, we are dedicated to our mission which is To Prepare Christian Leaders—One Student at a Time. To accomplish this, we offer our students a variety of opportunities to discover, grow, and apply their God-given leadership skills for service beyond their years at Lutheran High School.
How is Lutheran High School Preparing Christian Leaders—One Student at a Time?
Listed below are the Top Ten ways we are challenging and transforming students into Christian leaders.
1. Committed to Our Cause
Our schools’ entire mission and focus, from course syllabus to graduation diploma, is committed to Christian leadership development and enhancement in our students. The passion and energy our teachers and staff give to this cause are second to none.
2. Christian Leadership Class
We requre all of our students to take a Christian leadership class during their junior year. Students will not only learn leadership theories and schools of thought, but grow in knowledge and confidence in their own leadership capabilities and gifts. This class also invites community leaders to talk and meet with our students about their personal trials and tribulations as leaders in their businesses, organizations, homes, and community.
3. Christian Leadership Seminars
Special leadership speakers are frequently brought in to challenge, inspire, encourage, teach, and provide tools for our students to grow in their own leadership capacities.
4. Christian Leadership Curriculum and Classroom Leadership Lessons
Each teacher and each class provide specific leadership lessons and challenges for our students to grow.
5. Christian Leadership Opportunities Outside the Classroom
LHS’s enrollment size provides the perfect environment for leadership opportunities for our students. Over 90% of our students are involved in various co-curriculars where they are entrusted as leaders of their teams and organizations.
6. The Leadership Library
LHS continues to expand our Leadership Library—works and books that provide inspirational leadership lessons for all ages. This library is specifically designed for the student who wishes to learn more about the concepts and methodologies of leadership and grow in their own Christian leadership walk.
7. Christian Leadership Scholarship
Senior students have an opportunity to apply for the very unique Christian Leadership Scholarship. To be considered for this scholarship, students are required to pick a book from our Leadership Library and provide a written report as well as a formal 45 minute presentation to the scholarship committee on the work. Students are asked to express how the leadership work has encouraged or inspired them to be better Christian leaders.
8. Extra Leadership Opportunities
LHS students lead chapel, lead and witness in our musical Praise and Worship Team, provide leadership lessons to the community through our faith-centered “Soul Train” drama troupe, a service-oriented Student Council, multiple service projects, a school-wide Service Day, and their everyday walk in school life.
9. Chapel and Special Leadership Training Assemblies
Students are exposed to the life and leadership lessons of Jesus Christ twice a week in a relaxed chapel setting. Moreover, special guest speakers are constantly brought in to encourage student leadership development and growth.
10. Christian Leadership Modeling from Our Teachers and Staff
Our teachers and staff are renowned for the amount of individual time and attention they give our students. As Christian leaders themselves, our teacher are not perfect, but they are dedicated to each students spiritual well-being, and his or her academic, intellectual, social, and leadership growth. Our teachers talk and teach leadership, and most importantly, live it day by day with our students.
