History

"Almost three decades after our inception, Lutheran High School continues to Prepare Christian Leaders - One Student at a Time." Sheboygan Area Lutheran High School rose from the dreams and prayers of many believers in Sheboygan County. After much prayer and preparation, the first administrator was called in 1977. In the fall of 1978 the High School became a reality when it opened the doors of the Ebenezer Church Education building to 36 Freshmen and Sophomore Students.

The following year Lutheran High moved to St. Paul Education Center in Sheboygan Falls. The Hoppert Farm was purchased as the future site of the school.

Construction of the Lutheran High School building became a reality in 1980, with students, faculty, and staff moving into the facility in the spring of 1981. The TAPROOT Club was formed at that time to build a firm foundation of support for the High School. That year also saw the first graduation class of eight students.

By 1992, the facility was too small for the student body needs. The "Wings To Serve and Lead" Capital campaign raised over $1 million for the first addition to the facility. Three Classrooms, a cafeteria, a kitchen, storage, and a teacher workroom were added. More construction in 1994 added a counseling office, art room, and washrooms, and an original classroom was renovated to provide a physics-calculus lab. In 1995 the original classrooms were remodeled., a new computer lab developed, and the cafeteria was expanded.

The "Wings to Serve and Lead II" capital campaign raised $650,000 to fund the second building addition. This 1996 construction consisted of 3 classrooms, new and renovated locker room facilities, and a music classroom.

1998 was a year of celebration. Lutheran high School was 20 Years old! The Alumni Association was formed. Over 675 students have been blessed by their education a Lutheran High School. At the same time, another tremendous blessing ensued; the LHS Endowment Fund surpassed the $1 million level.

“The Vision 2000” campaign enhanced the great ministry of LHS by providing four new classrooms, an expanded and renovated gymnasium, a new lobby area, refurbished hallways, a new outdoor storage space, and a maintenance garage. The Vision 2000 campaign also enabled LHS to construct a Distance Learning Lab and a Special Needs classroom to better meet the needs of all students. Finally, Vision 2000 laid out a Master Site Plan, a blueprint, of future capital improvements on our campus such as a football/track complex, expanded parking, and a new entrance and baseball field location.

In the fall of 2004, Lutheran High School adopted a more concise mission statement: To Prepare Christian Leaders—One Student at a Time. In 2005, LHS kicked off the “Leading the Way” campaign so that this great mission can continue to flourish and thrive. An expanded parking lot, new outdoor signage, a comprehensive technology overhaul--which includes renovating the library into a multimedia center, new student lockers, scholarship funding, and facility financing are all goals to be reached under the auspices of this campaign.

In short, LHS’s mission remains alive and well today. Our model, inspiration, and Savior is Jesus Christ. For one can love people without leading them, but one cannot lead people without loving them. At LHS, we love our children, thanks be to God.”
